They are easy to use and adaptable to a variety of aquarium conditions. Tidal Power Filters are designed from the ground up to provide your aquarium with high-quality, comprehensive filtration. My previous comments already illustrate why I prefer HOBs for ease of maintenance and being able to simply hide on the back of the tank.Seachem have thought of everything for this Hang on Filter with the build quality and warranty through to the self-cleaning and priming - not forgetting the Matrix Media included and the dual intake with surface skimming makes it one of the best on the market. This why, as I previously mentioned that I wouldn't consider an expensive cannister until I get closer to the 75gal tank size. The correct amount of beneficial bacteria will develop to handle your tanks specific ammonia load no matter how much "extra" media you think you add.Īs your tank size increases, you likley add more fish resulting in higher ammonia loads. It only changes as you add or remove fish. You also have to realize that your filter will never have "extra" beneficial bacteria just because you have more media. Obviously, we aren't, which in turn proves that we have adequate beneficial bacteria in our HOBs. If HOBs didnt work, everyone using them would be overloaded with ammonia and nitrite. The science proves that HOBs have adequate space for media to establish the correct amount of beneficial bacteria, otherwise my filter would not be able to process the ammonia into nitrite and nitrite into nitrate. Having a cannister simply makes you feel better because you can dump as much media as you want without truly uderstanding the science that is actually happening. So you know the exact area that is required for filtration media to establish the correct amount of beneficial bacertia? No, you obviously don't. ![]()
